CLUES Math Activities for the ESL Classroom

Each of the links below will lead you to instructions and materials for ESL Math Activities which align with commonly taught ESL Life Skills Themes. The activities are organized by skill level  but each activity could be adapted to accommodate lower or higher skill levels.

Beginning           Intermediate         Advanced

 Beginning Level ESL Math Activities:

  1. Personal Information - Review basic addition with numbers 1-10 using Bingo
  2. Clocks & Time - Perform basic math calculations involving time
  3. Clothing - Analyze and create simple bar graphs that represent information
  4. Maps & Directions - Calculate lengths and distances using basic U.S. measures
  5. Banks & Money - Correctly fill out a deposit slip and calculate total deposit
  6. Shopping 1 - Calculate the total cost of purchases (addition & subtraction)
  7. Shopping 2 - Calculate the total cost of purchases (multiplication)
  8. Food & Restaurants - Calculate the total cost of an ordered meal
  9. Workplace 1 - Analyze and create simple bar graphs that represent information
  10. Workplace 2 - Identify parts of a time sheet and check for errors
